Hey FEESTfam!

The 2015 calendar year is coming to an end and it’s that time of year – that time when we get to do a little reflecting. We’ve been thinking about our top moments from the last year, and while it was real hard to decide which to choose, we came up with 5 moments we want to share with you.

But before we do, we want to say thanks for making this year at FEEST possible, we have the best #FEESTfam we could possibly ask for. Here’s to another year full of laughter, delicious food, youth-led community food campaigns, and over 450 hours of youth mentorship and training.

Let’s make 2016 even bigger! Support us in reaching our goal of $5,000 this holiday season.  We are already a quarter of the way there!

Now, let the countdown begin!

#5 Taste Test Extravaganza

FEEST organized over 100 high school students at the Evergreen campus for the first ever Taste Test Extravaganza, sampling youth made lunch recipes and improving school nutrition.

#4 Having our interns at the Fresh Flavor Cocktail Party

This year we had our first ever fundraiser event, the Fresh Flavor Cocktail Party at the Pike Place Atrium. We had over 100 guests and raised over $27,000!! One of our favorites parts of the night – our hard working interns got to feel all the love, support, and energy from our amazing community. FEEST intern Abdikani, 16, gave a speech that night that was off the hook. Several of the interns reflected back, “We felt like royalty tonight!! It felt SO good!”

#3 Workshops, Conferences, and More!

Our dope staff and interns really know how to do a workshop. 2015 workshop highlights include facilitating a workshop at Highline Community College called What’s My Story?: Organizing 101. Over 100 students showed up to the workshop and took a journey with us in storytelling, the power of vulnerability and stepping into our personal power and voice. It was a hit and we had so much fun doing it! FEEST interns and staff also went to the annual Allied Media Conference in Detroit, Michigan for the first time in FEEST history!

#2 Youth-led Media

FEEST leaders are currently developing messages & graphics to promote healthy eating for a multimedia counter-marketing campaign to combat the junk food advertising they see in their community. Stay tuned on this one, this campaign is sure to blow up in the new year!

#1 “Too many” youth at the dinners

What’s our #1 favorite moment? Every time we have “too many” youth at a dinner and have to adjust the room in a funky shape so we can all eat together at the table. FEEST sets the table for young people to gather around healthy food, talk critically about what’s happening in their community, and center youth in solution making.
FEEST is youth-led food empowerment and education in action.
